This test is for people of Ashkenazi Jewish descent. If you are European then a result of up to 4% does not signify Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry, as it is an average result for Europeans on this calculator. (the calculator effect). This test is not for Sephardi or Mizrahi Jewish populations.

Hi there I'm pretty new to DNA testing and I have a question. I read that 4% or less Ashkenazi is considered normal for people of European decent and doesn't mean anything. Mine is coming up as 5.13% so does that mean nothing or is it accurate? Any insight would be very appreciated. Thank you

Hi crystaltalton,
Even if that test is considered outdated, the general "rule" is that people who score around 5% of less on Jtest don't have recent AJ ancestry (at least, not significant enough to warrant further investigation). However, it doesn't meant you can't crossckeck with other calculators/oracles on Eurogenes, and see of those give you any AJ result. Also, what company did you test with, and did it give you AJ percentages?
